The Faculty formally opened its ne\v commons room by entertaining friends from town at tea, Thursday afternoon, April21.
April 25, our debating team, composed of Richard Banks and George Gunu, de:feated the team from St. Christopher's, composed of Berkeley Williams nnc.l.Francis Duke, in a very sphited and interesting debate. The subject for discussion was: Resolved, That immigration to the United States should be suspended for a period of fiye ~·cars. Our team very ably upheld the negative side of this question.
Our team was later defeated h,r the team from Woodberry Forest in the preliminaries of the Ya. High School Literary and Athletic League contest.
On the same e,·ening our 1·eaders were defeated by the readers from St. Christopher's. Edmond Archer, of St. Christopher's, carried off the laurels in this contest. Those reading were :

Wednesday, May 4, ~{r. G\Yathmcy went to .......orfolk, Va., to visit relatives there. From there he went to Wytheville to hold services at St. John's Church the following Sunday. Mr. Gwathmey has accepted a call to this church and by the time this issue of TnE ~1ETEOR is off the press, will haYe been there some time.
