and fared no better in the field events. It was only in the jumps that V. E. S. was able to make a creditable showing taking 11 out of 18 point in these events. Grant and Murray of S. M. A. tied for high
scoring honors with 10 points apiece. S. M. A. Well Balanced
V. E. S. defeated S. M. A. three years ago 92-25, but the Cadet team of this year was greatly superior to that of '25. Practically all the times and distances in the meet of '25 were
bettered this year, and three records for Johnson Field were smashed by the powerful Blue and Gold stars. The winners had a well balanced team, and there was no event in which they did not have strength.
S. l\f. A. made a clean sweep in the sprints. Grant and Alexander

Taylor of V. E. S. and Murray
of S. M. A. ran a neck and neck race in the quarter with the latter finally nosing out victorious. The Staunton star was clocked in 53 % seconds, 1fz second faster than the former Johnson Field record. Ed- wards, one of the best prep school milers ever seen in the state, had to
run the fastest mile ever travelled on Johnson Field to defeat Miles, of V. E. S. His time of 4 minutes 48 3-10 seconds was 10 seconds faster than
the previous mark.
Green was the only wearer of the
Garnet and White to place in the weights when he took third in the shot. In the low hurdles, Fields led
Bethea and Patteson to the finish; Heald took third in the high hurdles.

The jumps were the only events in which V. E. S. was able to make a
creditable showing. Shaw and
