IIGALLOPPOLL D ~------------------------~
Scoutmaster Troop No. 7, V. E. S. Sir:
In regard to data I told you I would try to get for your Troop No. 7 ...
Troop No. 7, Lynchburg, Va., was organized September, 1917, and re- mained active under various persons until September, 1926 ...
:\fr. C. H. Burgess (or Burgues) was the organizer and scoutmaster. 1Iy brother, C. 11. Hodges, of Forest, was assistant scoutmaster, so was Tom Spradlin, 517 Clay Street, City.
The scouts' names I now recall arc Fred Bryant, Linwood Brandt, Henry Spradlin, Clarke Niger, who is now assi~tant pastor of the Church of the Brethren; Adrian Rorer, now city electrician; six boys named White . . .
We met in John W. Wyatt Public School. The troop first met in College IIill Baptist Church; but, due to noisy scouts and ball playing on the Sab- bath, we had to move . . .
\Vc built a two-story log cabin on several acres of land several miles north of Scott'~ Mill Dam on the James River. \Ve had our own con- crete swimming pool ...
I am sending you some of my treas- ured keepsakes of Troop 7 ... to re- mind your boys that they have hon- orable history behind them-a troop number that stood highest in Lynch- burg for three years . . . At one time the scoutmasters came to our Troop
ro. 7 and asked us to please slack up, as other troops were discouraged . .
CLAUDE D. HODGES, Scoutmaster Troop No. 9,
Fairview Methodist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Scoutmaster and the new Troop 7 arc grateful to Mr. Hodges for the trouble he has taken.-Ed.

The results of the third Gallo: Poll taken in study hall one wee ago are as follows:
1. Do )'Ott thin!? that the drm age should be lmvered to take 17-year-old boys?
Yes, 28.9%. Xo, 71.1o/o.
Evidently V. E. S. boys treasun
their youth to such an extent th
they would rather sit on the bend
than be drafted a year sooner. P& school < triotism is not lacking here; it · therefore

only the fear of becoming a priYa

the students of V. E. S. a not-sc
bright outlook on the war. One be
urged that the draft age be moYa
up to twenty-one. Nevertheless on and have thing is certain-when the tin recenth·
comes for every single boy in tit school to do his part, he will do willingly and well.
2. Are you in favor of having
name b011d for finals at a cost long clist approximately ten dollars! distance
Yes, 63.4-J'o. No, 36.6lcdge
get Spivak-but it's just a rumor. 3. Do you favor substituting
compulsorv studv hall instead walking iemerits?
Yes, 38.9%. No, 61.17o.
Certainly substituting a compw
sory study hall in plac.e of walkin,
demerits would tend to aid t~
V. E. S. boy in his scholastic stam
ing. However, it looks as thoug
boys would rather read a {unn
