The troops formed a column on the bridge at the hea_d of Main Street in numerical order. The line of march led down Main Street to Ninth, then up the hill to Memor- ial Terrace.
Some of the troops displayed banners depicting scout activities. Others bore slogans advertising scrap drives, etc., and dragged wagons filled with scrap metal and paper. Still others carried camp- ing equipment or first aid equip- ment. The appearance of the troops was judged by scouters in the crowd along the line of march.
At Monument Terrace Mr. H. F. Cotey, scout executive of the Pied- mont Area Council, led the scouts and cubs in the scout oath and Jaw. To the Colors was blown by a scout bugler, then Taps, after which a sil ent prayer was offered for
former scouts and others in the armed forces.
Somewhat to the surprise of the scoutmaster, Troop 7, the V. E. S. troop, was judged third best in ap- pearance, this in spite of the fact that the judges had been notified previously not to consider this troop, since mid-term examinations had prevented any special prepara- tions. Troops 1 and 12 won first and second honors.
Troop 7 Hikes
On Sunday, February 13, Troop
7 hiked to Judith Creek for sup- per. This was in lieu of an over- night hike to Mr. Bank's farm, which had been postponed by order of higher authority because of .the extrem<' cold.
Four boys- Bennett, J ohnson, Reading and Smith-passed their second class fire building tests.
The fires were put to exceJlent use to prepare a supper of boiled potatoes, hamburgers with onions, and hot tea, together with bread and butter and graham crackers. Ten boys managed to consume in one meal the food which had been intended to last twelve boys for two meals.
