De&r Gentlemen,
I've been w&nting to write for some time,
but I haven't hod o permonent &ddress un- til just recently. I've been in repl&cement pools since I finished boot tr&ining, &nd I'm not sure of onything.
I w&s &t Shoemoker, Colif., until lost Thursd&y. The trip out here w&s pretty interesting. W e s&w some righ t nice-looking scenery, ond one good-sized whopper of 11 wreck in Missouri. I believe th&t w&s the coldest night I ever spent. The only time I con remember being nearly so cold w&s when Uncle Phil decided to economize on cool in the winter of '44.
I sow J&ck Wellford 11 couple of weeks ogo ot Shoem&ker. Aside from Goul ond Hilem&n, he's the only V. E. S. olumnus I've run &cross in the N&vy.
Mr. Follett, Goul ond Hilem&n s&id they w o u l d s e n d y o u f i v e doll~~rs t h e y o w e m e from o time when I w&s c&uqht in o gener- ous mood. Pleose subscribe me to "The Meteor," ond give wh&t's left to Mr. Gon- n&w&y for the V-Ciub tro&sury. If this yeor's treosurer is onything like Long, I'm sure they con use it. Please m&il me oil the back copies of "The Meteor," since I h&ven't done more thon glonce through 11 couple of copies.
I've been looking oround out here in sun- ny C&lifornio (when it w&sn't roining), &nd I think I've seen almost everything the aver- llge tourist is supposed to see. Son Fron· cisco is obout the most different ploce I've ever seen. About the only thing I've seen th&t wos more unusuol wos the North C&ro· line desert, which produced such things os "Lil AI," "Footsie," " Long," "West," and sever&l others.
I hope you're oil well, ond tho+ things &re progressing smoothly oround school. Pleose remember me to your fomilies.
Reg&rds to oil, J&ck.
