THE SCHOOL Mid-Winter Dance
The Hop Committee did them- selves up in fine sty1e for the Mid- Winter D~~nce, held in the recreation room on February 2. The decorations were corried in o V olentine scheme, the orchestra beinq framed in a Iorge red heort. Red cherubs and cupids embellished t h e b l u e - d r o p e d walls, ~nd red hearts on a white bock- ground odorned the pillars. The room w~s bothed in a soft blue light. The Hop Committee, worbng with only two members, oppointed a sub-com- mittee to help with the 9ecorotions. Dove Ri~~nhard, Paul Taylor, Vel Stieglitz, and John Hyre served on
this committee.
Mony out-of-town guests attended the dance, among them several ~lumni.
The music was provided by Jimmie s~unders lind his orchestra.

From one to three times a week the radio program, "The World of Sports," on Station WLVA has been
carrying material about the sc~?o,L The program is sponsored by Phtltp s Brothers and is announced by the station's ace commentator, Wayne Tyler.
J~~n. 17th many V. E. S. boys were late to supper in a vain effort to hear one of their number, Beverly Barge, appear in person on the program. Borge did speak, but his port of the program came long after the start of the evening meal at the school.
The occasion for the special brood- cost was the resumption, to a very limited degree, of athletic relations between V. E. S. and E. C. G'oss High School with the entry of the Iotter school into the City Athletic League. Elias Richards, captain of the high school Junior Varsity team, and Borge, captain of the V. E. S. 17- Yeor-Oid team, were invited to speak. Other speakers were the Rev. Marshall M. Milton, coach of the V. E. S. team, and George Peters, di- rector of the league.
Mr. Tyler, in his closing remark~, expressed his satisfaction at even thts limited resumption of on association which hod been broken off over fif- teen years before. "Feuds ore won- derful," he said, "on the athletic fie'd;, They are no good anywhere else.
"The World of Sports" program has joined the Lynchburg "No vs" in advocating the burial of the hatchet between the two Lynchburg institu- tions. Eorl'cr in the year Mr. Tyler devoted almost half his progrum to this matter, reading in full the edi- torial "Common Sense" from t';e Oc- tober issue of "The Meteor."
Vestry and Acolyte Guild
Two new organizations have re-
cently been formed in the school. The Student Vestry, consisting of Francis Aldred, Tom Allen, Edgar Betty, Dick Gundry, and Don VtJn· Noppen, will have charge of the chtJpel offering and will decide its

with the chaplain.

The V. E. S. Air Scout SqutJdron 7 hos received new pre-fliqht instruc- tion equipment, Mr. MtJrshall Milton, squtJdron letJder, announced recent- ly. The instruments tJre on altimeter, tJ turn and bank indicator, and fJ rote of climb indicator. In tJddition, ex- pected to be received soon ore ~ di- rectional gyro and tJ gyro honzon. Other equipment will be purchtJsed from time to time by the club.
The Junior Birdmen htJve also re- received tJ Kenna airplane engine of 160 h. p., also to be used for instruc- tion purposes. This new equipment, together with Mr. Milton's weekly lectures and instruction ore making on excellent foundation upon which the Scouts will begin actual flying les- sons early in March.
