'I wan'a balloon! See the pretty hipmo-otopus Daddy? Mama, I wan'a go to the baaathroom!"-Yes, you guessed it. The setting for the V. E. S. M i d - W i n t e r s Do n e e o n F e b r u a r y 7 was a zoological park. Not a regular one but a special sort of zoo. Painted animals, as respective mast ers (see cover), were appropriately behind bars with informative placards stating the species and habitat of each.*
A perfumed fountain generously loaned by Mr . Hawkins o f Millner's scented the Barksdale Gymnasium with an aroma definitely not that of a~sorted animals. Two drunke n lamp- posts and a souvenir stand carried out the theme as did painted trees and a painted fence which ran over a horizon surrounding the gym.
The down beat was knocked out by Lynchburg's "Kingsmen" and re- freshments were served by the faith- 'ul Mrs. Wyatt ond Mrs. Dixon.
Credit goes to Pat Murray, Eddy and Mary Jane Gannaway, Mrs. Wyatt, Mr. Shaeffer and his joy boys. as well as Paul Taylor, designer; J ack Pancoast, electrical master mind; and Vernon Dawson, money squeezer.

For some, the cold breath and stark trunk of Ole' Man Winter mean more thanjustsneezin andcussin'. Wayup here in Virginia the early months of the year see much snow and ice (too much for any level-headed Tarheel) but the hardier members contend that this is desirable, permitting them to "enjoy" the thrilling sports of ice- skat ing,* sledding. and skiing . It is rumored that even "Moon" has tried his hand (?) at this business of skating on frozen ponds. (Keep at it Bailey; anybody can learn eventually!)
Boys have observed that the hill beside R.-M. W. C. is a most popular place for sled d ing. It is debatab!e, however, whether this is due to cool bricks or warm chicks. A few will say that this comparison is absurd but they should remember in such dou- ble-handed cases that due to the dif- ferences in make-up between precipi- tation and the human body it is possi- ble for one to freeze while the other definitely does not (and vice versa).
Upon getting back to sports peculiar to winter, it is recalled that

not all of these "Eskimos" have fared so well. Neither names nor parts of the anatomy shall be mentioned, but an influx of crutches has been noticed around school lately.
The moral of this story is: Stay on your feet, away from women, out of Lynchburg, and in the sunny South.
