Valedictory Address
By George Harding Lewis, Ill
I don't ~ee any tears, but still it's a <'ld day for us who are spending our last official moments at V. E. S. All during the year we've talked, and even jokeo, about this past week- end . . . the dances, the singing o f the V. E. S. Hymn for the last time in chapel, our dates (every one of which is the best looking girl in the South). everything we could think of. But only now do we realize that leaving this campus meClns leaving a school that we all love, one that we can be sure
will always remember us.
We of the senior class who were
counselors are proud and fortunate to h a v e h<'ld t h e c h a n c e t o s e r v e t h e .chool in this way. In ~arrying out our duties we have learned to assume responsibilities and to look at both sides of a question, weighing its merits, making reasonable allowMces, Md, to the best of our ability, arriv- ing at our decisions. For this we arc indebted to the faculty and the stu- dent body who elected us.
We have had our last classes here, walked our last demerits, heard the bell for the last time, eaten our last V. E. S. food, burned our last mid- night oil for The M eteor, and "cussed" out Chief !o1 the a· ' f me for bark- ing at all hours of the morning. Right now, in the excitement of going home, we may think we're glad ... and in a way we are glad . .. but if wed only stop to think a minute, we'd realize that it hasn't been so bad after all.

We ve griped almost continually, especially over our disagreement:; with teachers; and <'lS a result some of us have "taken it out" on the school by breaking windows and the like. Yes, one window is a small thing; but windows soon add up; and in the end the •tudent l'ody i-; dc;:>rived of something they otherwise woul3 have had. So when solid or trig. gets rough next year, don't let it
