The Classy Class
(Con in~ed from pllge 3, col. 3)
Watch out! ... whoosh! That, my friend, was Brad warming up for his wind sprints. Look out, here he comes again! Lemme tell you about this boy. Trible Cullen Bradley hails from Waynesboro, Virginia. and has, in his two-year stay at V. E. S., be- come one of the leaders of the school.
Well. he's lettered in football, bas- ketball, baseball, and what's the other?-oh, yes, track; and he's sec-
retary of the V-Ciub this year. Then, um-m, he's one of the counselors, a mainstay in the choir, and some kind of high muckety-muck in the Scout Troop. Not only has he done all this, mind you, ,but he's also consistently on the study-out list. Yeah, ya might say Br.:~d'l be missed next year when we lose him to William and Mary.
Charles Milton Brooks toddled in- to V. E. S. four years ago from Tap- pahannock, Virg inia, "The Form" has interests in many activities, including football, basketball and baseball, in which he just finished earning his first varsity letter. More, he's secretary of the Classy Closs, and stands well in all of his studies; serves ably as the circulation manager of The Meteor, and is o member of two weeks' stand- ing of the V-Ciub. All good things have to come to an end, so here's wishing you much luck at Charlottes- ville next year.
Well, we may as well get on with Stanley-Stanley Robert Smith, he was christened. We call him a lot of things, but mostly Stanley. So settle back, and let us tell you the sad tale of said Stan.
First off (and whatta blow), the guy's winding up his fifth year at the joint. Therefore, we could class him as one of the modern wonders of the world. Of course-not all of it has been bod. The vacations were deluxe!
Now comes the part where we usually spiel off what the guy's done, while sitting around doing nothing. Well, he's head counselor, and head of the Honor Committee; editor of The Meteor (and we hear he's the main contributor); then there's head of the Hop Committee. He was president of the J. V.-Club until he
got his letter as baseball manager this year, and got into the V-Ciub. Besides this, and we forgot to men- tion it before, he's one of the most popular boys in school, and we mean it, Stan.
We wonder, vaguely, if the place will be able to function after he de- livers his Valedictory for the Classy Class this commencement. So bye, bye, Stan ... we'll see you around!
Brock McMullan is another one of those Carolina boys who seems to cart off all the honors. He has con- structed a very enviable scholastic record and completely dominated the senior public speaki ng period this year. Brock is from Elizabeth City, N. C., and has proven himself a very worthy ambassador with his friendly smile and winning personality.
This McMullan guy will be entering the University of North Carolina next fall, and all his friends back at the old Hill City wish him the best of luck!
Although Joe Crute came to V. E. S. a short time before the beginning of the second term opened, he has proven himself o worthy enough ath- lete to secure both a basketball and baseball letter, though hindered by injuries in both sports.
Joe plans to go to Washington and Lee University up in Lexington a f t e r he leaves the school, and we all cer- tainly wish him the best of luck, hop- ing all the while that he spends a little more time there than Hollins. Them wimmin will ruin ye, my lad! Although his stay was short, his remembrance will be long.
And here's Richard A. Carrington, Ill. Big Dick hails to us from right here in Lynchburg. For four years at the sacred 160 acres, he's piled up a mighty record. First off, Dick's a let-
terman in football. basketball, base- ball, and the next captain of the checkers team fo r sure. Besides this he's a member of the V-Ciub, and an officer on the hallowed G. A. A.
To continue with another para- graph, he's one of the most popular counselors in school; and to top it all off, he's the president of this year's Classy Class. And along with all this, he's kept his grades often on the study-out list. Whew!
All kidding aside, though, this Rich-
ard is one of the best-liked cots around these parts, and when he takes off for greener fields this sum- mer, even the bugs in study hall will miss him, for, along with everything else, he wouldn't hurt a flea.
Walter William Albers arrived at ye old institution late 3 years ago and he hasn't been on time for any- thing since then. "Squeaky" in the past three years has participated in all of the J-V sports and earned his major letter this year as manager of basketball. To a d d t o this, he was one of this year's capable sports edi- tors of The Meteor. Bill plans to carry on his education at Washington and Lee University next year and we are sure he will make a good record there as he has here.
Then there's-uh-William How- ard Pitt, Jr. Howie came to us this year a skimpy lad of 6'4" from Hert- ford, North Carolina. W e fixed him right up, though, and now he's as good a man as the rest of 'em, hailing from Ole 2nd West, like he does. Besides being a constant study-outer, he has lettered in all the three sports he went out for this year, being high point man in basketball. Besides, he's a member of the choir, and the V- Ciub. We're gonna all miss Howie's boyish smile when we lose him to Duke University next fall.
Four years ago, John Eliot $trough- ton was given the rare and much cov- eted privilege of coming to V. E. S. We are proud of his record, and have just cause to be. He's on The Meteor staff, which is the pride and joy of our much-loved faculty. His grades have lain on an even keel of around 85, and that's no mean record. Twice he's lettered in baseball, once to be- come captain of the squad (a very high honor bestowed only on captains of our baseball teams). Once he has lettered in basketball, and is a tried and true member of the V-Ciub. If that isn't a good record, you needn't keep reading, 'cause you won't find any better ones in this book. God, and the Classy Class bless you, Jack.
