Attractive Girls, New Bus, And Good Dinner Are Star Attractions Of Chatham Hall Trip
On November 19 a brand new treamlined bus, complete with radio and heater, rolled up to the "Ole 160' and shortly thereafter departed with a group of forty eager boys and
cne master.
After a vocal trip, we arrived at Chatham Hall ond immediately an anxious group of girls descended upon us and we were soon paired up with our gorgeous dotes.
Soon we were ushered into a candle-lit dining room ond there we enjoyed a delicious meal of pork chops. After dinner we went into the dance hall and there listened to Slim Pickins a n d t h e Smoky M o u n t a i n Boys warming up for the dance.
As the dance progressed, Eely Elam and Bull Corter snowed all the g"rls with their cool jitterbugging. But s n o w i n g a l l t h e g i r l s w a s n ' t enough for Bull-he had to make a oass at the enticing English teacher as well.
Gunter turned red after picking himself up off the freshly waxed floor.
Gil Sayres was expecting a date w:th Farinholt's Okeefenokee Swamn g:rl, but was disappointed when she didn't show up.
Zeke was having a private barbe- cue in a dark corner.
Shortly after twelve, all the V.E.S. wolf pack, led by Icky, piled in the bus and started back to the "Ole ,60.' All the way back cries of
Icky's a lover" were heard resound- ing from the back of the bus. Then Icky gave us a short lecture on gram- mar.
The dance was immensely enjoyed by all and we are looking forward to our next invitation.

The
Christmas Service
Of Traditional Music, Lessons Held In Langhorne Chapel Sunday Night
On Sunday night, December I Ith, there was a very effective Evening Christmas Service in the school chapel.
The interior of the chapel was beautifully decorated. The candles placed in the windows, among the choir, and in the altar cast a soft light on the congregation, and the evergreens added a lot to the won- derful effect of the service. The choir and congregation sang to- gether most of the familiar carols and hymns, among these being: " 0 Come All Ye Faithful," "0 Little Town of Bethlehem", "Silent Night", "Angels We Have Heard on High", and "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing."
In this Yuletide atmosphere, the chaplain explained in brief the mean- ing of Christmas, and of being able to attend services during the Christ- mas Season.
The lessons, which told the story of
the incarnation of Christ, were read by Ed Carter, Joe Dulaney, Jim Mc- Gee, Bobby Gillespie, Frank Craig- hill, and Hugh Patterson.
Chapel Painted And Gym Floor Refinished During Thanksgiving Vacation Clean-Up
As the students returned from their Thanksgiving vacation, they noticed, much to their delight, that the Chapel had been painted inside and the Gym floor had been refinished.
The inside of the Chapel acquired a new coat of ivory paint to add to the mounting number of improve- ments made in this building since the term started in September. The out- er doors, the walls and the ceiling were all painted, giving the Chapel an almost new look.
The Gymnasium floor was sanded and varnished. To add to the beauty of the new floor, the boundary and foul lines were painted red instead of black. Also a V.E.S. monogram in the school colors was painted in the center of the floor. We would like to thank the V Club and all the mas- ters who made this work possible.
On the exterior of the school, all of the overgrown trees and bushes in front of the Main Building and West Dormitory were cut down to give the school a much neater appearance. These trees were placed too close to the school and had to be removed.
