Check the students for escapes, check them well, one and all."
As dry leaves that before the hur- ricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the dorms the masters they flew,
With stick-pads in hand and long pencils too.
And then in a twinkling all of the peekers
Heard Jo-Jo's soft step, like a cat wearing sneakers.
He was armed with his flashlight, a convenient invention
For picking out suckers for weekend detention.

Students Entertained By Christmas Party; Faculty Go Beserk During Intermission
A Christmas Party was held last Saturday night in t h e Gym. Spon- sored by the Hop Committee, as an "extra", this dance was attended by +he entire school community. Many of the students brought dates.
The music for the dancing was sup- plied by a variety of records, but the highlights of the evening came dur- ing intermission. With Mr. Field act- ing as Master of Ceremonies, various members of the faculty presented a series of stunts. First on the program was the Alumni Quartet, made up of mosters who had attended V. E. S. as students. This group, composed of Mr. Barton, Mr. Lee, Mr. Aldred, and Mr. Field, sang a number of old favorites. Following this, Mr. Hester did on impersonation of Frank Sina- tra, ably assisted by a recording. Mr. Barton impressed the audience with his virtuosity on the accordion. The
climax of this
when Mr. Field recited a parody on ''The Night Before Christmas" . This magnificent epic presented a Christ- mas scene of V. E. S.
The students and their dates par- ticipated in a variety of stunts and gomes and the evening was con- cluded with more dancing.
The center of the decorations was o Christmas tree trimmed with 'ights and pop corn balls. In addition to the refreshments of punch and cookies served by Mrs. Barton, all present were given candy leis.

The Night Before
Christmas Vacation
'Twas a few days before Christmas;
and the dorms small and large
Not a creature was stirring except
the Master in Charge.
The socks were all hung by the win-
dows with care
(Having been worn since September,
they needed the air.)
The students were nestled all snug
in their beds
Thought the Master in Charge-he
had rocks in his head.
And f-1ester in night gown and Luns-
ford in cap
Had just settled down for a well-
earned nap.
When out on the campus there arose
such a clatter
That the students sprang from their
beds to see what was the matter. Away to the windows they flew like
a flash
And almost broke the record for a
hundred yard dash (big dorms). The moon on the breast of the new-
fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to the
persons below.
When, what to their inquiring eyes
should appear,
But the sweet old boys who teach
them here.
The leader was smoking a pipe they
knew well;
It left no doubt that this one was
Bells.
More rapid than eagles his masters
they came,
And he whistled and shouted and
. .... ........ .... . .. .
........Home . Away
called them by name:
once again quiet; this riot.
He said to the masters all assembled below,
"Let the boys have fun, 'tis Christ- mas you know.
I know there are rules, but don't be a dunce;
Don't you remember that you were boys once?"
Go back to bed, things will be all right,
A Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
-William Field.
