After t~ree days of rain, we awoke we en to a bright and crisp ~ ~g fLI' of anticipation for the ~q day. At breakfast, the Head- •er was more than his usual jovial f a~d, pipe in mouth, he vigorously
orted us to the successful fulfill- e +of things to come.
Eory a ...mni, parents, and girls e qreeted with rousing cheers m the student body who were + ered around the victory bell in
e ...~ight of the courtyard for a ep rally. By ten o'clock the parking • was filled, and by eleven we w V.r. Wright taking command in •. Wya++'s field. Mr. Montgomery, " t"e meanwhile, held a meeting w + parents in the chapel, while
boys renewed old acquaintances and ode new ones.
After an alumni meeting at twelve, ·~e boys and their guests, which wwas a group of better than seven "ndred folk, enjoyed an excellent ,3fet luncheon served in the dining om of Banks Gannaway. As the wd soon outg1ew the confines of • e dining room, many ate outside t~e grounds, under the colorful
beou1yof the trees.
Soon everyone began the descent to the Johnson Field for the football game betwen the Collegiate School and the Bishops. The contest was certainly an exciting one with V. E. S. leading most of the game, only to have the game end in a 20-20 tie with the Richmond school. It was, how- ever, a hard-fought game which was
thrilling to boys and their guests, and was sure to bring back old, and make new, memories for returning alumni.
While boys toured Lynchburg or enjoyed the closing of the day with their girls on campus, parents, alumni, and faculty gathered at the Oak- wood Country Club to socialize and talk about the game. This meeting
also afforded parents the chance to meet and confer with boys' masters. Doubtless, everyone enjoyed him- self-at least we gathered so when we went by!
In preparation for the dinner dance, girls returned to their motels to get dressed, and boys created pandemonium on campus trying to get ready for the evening's festivities. Dinner began in the dining room at seven-thirty. Boys and their dates were received by the Headmaster and Mrs. Montgomery and several
other faculty members. Mr. Norheim and his staff aguin outdid themselves in serving a most gracious candlelight dinner. The dance, which was held in the Barksdale Memorial Gymnasi- um, was more than successful with the Delmonicos playing. The Hop Committee hud been at work for a week and had done a terrific job of decorating the gym in a Hallowe'en motif. The dance was highlighted by the presentation of the Deyerle Award to Bobby Watts as the most outstanding player in the Homecom- ing game, the crowning of the Home-
coming queen, Miss Anne Foreman of St. Mary's in Raleigh, and the intro- duction of the Hop Committee and
their dates. The dance was, of course, over too soon, and boys took their dates home, saying good night re- luctantly, knowing that Mr. Meador was back at Jett, pacing the floor, anxiously awaiting the return of his boys.
All Saints Day was observed by a celebration of the Holy Com- munion with Bishop Marmion as the celebrant and preacher, and Father Boyd assisting. The chapel was more than filled with boys, parents, and dates and the service was a magnifi- cent one, and indeed a fitting end to
a wonderful weekend.
By the middle of the afternoon parents and girls had departed and we settled down to work, in a sense rejuvenated by the weekend, but amazed at how fast it had gone. There was a lot to remember and we would do so for a long time.
