For his text, Dr. Parrish uses Mark I in which Jesus casts out the ev· spi6ts from a man, who lives in e +ombs, ond costs them into a d of 2000 swine, which jump off c ff and are killed. Jesus was erged to leave the town. Our first •cern is the swine-Why the poor •ocent sheep? Mark says this is eraderistic of the way man oonds to the way God acts. Guest Preacher
Heads bowed, but not in prayer, awaited our guest preacher last Nov- ember 18. Heads raised and at- tentive were left when he had com- pleted his sermon. This accomplish- ment was brought about by the genius of Rev. Alexander Robertson, minister of St. Paul's here in Lynch- burg.
Mr. Robertson's talk, in brief, was based on St. Luke 5:3 I , "They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick." He explained this by saying that the Church was suffer-
ing from three major illnesses: re- spectability, superiority, and ignor- ance. Respectability had become an end-point instead of a product of the Christian faith. Superiority had pro- duced the belief that religion is old- fashoined today. Ignorance of the church had caused much loss in today's humanity. If we are sick, then we have an excellent physician, Jesus Christ.
Much controversy arose from Mr. Robertson 's talk. Some believed him too pessimistic: others were in com- plete ag reement with him. Those who talked to him afterwards at Father Boyd's house tended to be in agreement, even though it took over an hour. This interest aroused by Mr. Robertson is an excellent tribute to him. May we have many more guest preachers like him.
