Mr. Carnes Previews
"Billy Budd"
On the evenings of May 22, 23, and 24, the newly-formed drama society of V.E.S. will present its pro- duction of Melville's Billy Budd, adapted for the stage by Coxe and Chapman.
Melville's powerful study of pure evil and pure good destroying one another for the COJTlpromise of life as we all know it will have as its principal actors J im Treadwell, as Billy Budd; Pat Konrad, as John Clag- gart; and Frank McDermot, as Cap- tain Vere. Mr. Arthur Carnes, V.E.S. master and former actor, is directing the play.
Cast and crew are hard at work, bringing ship and sailors together to give the audience the feeling of a real sea yarn.
There will be no set admission charge but instead a voluntary contri- bution towards a drama fund in the home of building a bigger and better drama program for coming years.
In addition to V.E.S. the general public and special school groups will be invited.
It is hoped that with the success of this production V.E.S. may enter enthusiastically the theatrical life of its community and bring something of value to itself and its area.

individual with the original idea, with the difference in character, with the voice of dissension, is laughed at, ridiculed. W e will not tolerate imagination and creativity.
So where can we go from here? What is the resolve between free- dom, responsibility, and creativity? Essentially, how can we improve the school and make it go the way it can and should? The answer, if really known, is known by few. But are there not things that we as boys in this school can do? Can we adopt a new attitude in response to this challenge? Can we look ahead, see our goals, and put the maximum into obtain ing them? Are we able to determine our commission, rearm our- selves with a new sense of values, and set forth to make the school what
it hes the living potential to be- come? If we can, V.E.S. will, in the near future, be the school that some
, men have claimed could produce "the full stature of manhood." If we cannot, we have failed the ideals of great men before us, we have failed the men who care about us now, and most of all we have failed ourselves at a time when what we could have done would have made all the dif- ference.
