we would need to find a coach; the sport demands a great deal of technique and can be dangerous. Another good point to be made is the lack of expense involved.
Question: Do you have anything you would like to add on wrestling as a sport?
Mr. Kiefer: It is easier to observe a basketball game. The spectator can at least keep up with whether the ball is going in

Kiefer/Culbertson "Co-Coaches of The Winter Season"
Culbertson (continued)
Question: What is your opinion of Mandatory athletics? Mr. Culbertson: I feel it is a
good experience, but I don't feel strongly for three athletics, maybe two. I feel on the off season there should be a particular team where an individual may sign up and allow him to improve on a certain sport. For example, if an
individual athlete is good in baseball, then he can play, say, football the first season and join this certain group of athletes during the winter season to work

Spring Track
BY MR . SOMMERVILLE Johnson Field was the scene of celebration Friday, March 30, as the Spring Track Team opened
its season with a victory over Durham Academy by the score of 73-54. Providing the leadership for the thinclads were the newly elected tri-captains, Robert Cook, Reed Kernodle and Will
Marshall.
Leading the way in the field
events was Marshall, who was All Prep in the winter season and is expected to contend for top honors in the shot and discus this spring. Against Durham he won
those two events handily with throws of 50' 8" and 132' 3" respectively. In addition, the performance earned him three pizzas, which Marshall's coach, Mr. Kiefer, had wagered on his
tosses.
Other Bishop contenders in
the weight events include Abbot McClintic (a second place in the shot against Durham), Reed Kernodle, Bryan Mathieson, Peter delCardyre and Mike

Question: What do you credit
for your successful season?
Mr. Culbertson: I had good material and a good bunch of people willing to work and give team effort. I was very thankful
for Mr. Gregory's help, because he helped a great deal.
Question: What do you see in the future for VES Basketball?
Mr. Culbertson: I don 't really think it will be as good as it should be, because we don't have enough time and facilities to work with. We had less than one
hour practices, so we weren't able to accomplish everything that could have been done. I feel though that by the J.V . and Varsity working together we will
save time and better prepare next year's team.
Question: Do you think night practices are the answer?
Mr. Culbertson: Well, one long practice a week is good just as long as we get one hour the other practices. But, we still have inadequate time to get ready, not only because of short practices, but also because Christmas Vacation falls during a major
time of the Basketball season . This hurts us because other Prep· :earns are able to practice and it shows in their records. However, I still feel we are very competitive despite not having the time and facilities. To make up for this loss of time, I think
players who are serious about basketball, should practice a lot during the summer. I also hope many players will go to summer
basketball camps.

Varsity Baseball
BY MR. MEADOR
With eight returning lettermen
and a talented group up lrom the junior varsity the varsity baseball team should be able to field an
experienced and sound club. The big question mark and
possibly the key to the season will be the success of the pitching staff. Mike Sankovich, who posted a 3-3 record last year, is the only returning pitcher. He will be joined on the mound by Richard Quillen, Mark Glascock, and "T" Fox. Both Quillen and Glascock have been impressive thus far.
