Joel Bourne sings and plays "Three Nights Drunk."
As the elderly couple, Kirk Rice and Lou Critz reminisce on youth- ful love.
Lashing out at the immorality of Spoon River, Kirk Rice portrays A.D. Blood.
The year's dramatic production, Spoon River Anthology represented a break with recent tradition: for the first time, VES produced the play in conjunc- tion with Salem Academy. Mr. Hopkins directed the players from VES, while the Salem actresses received their cues from Mrs. Dyeann Jordan. Mr. Brown coordinated the music which was performed by the entire cast, and Marshall McGuffin controlled the lights. After a long weekend in Salem,.the VES play- ers returned a week later to stage their production twice for Salem Academy on May 2-3: the seco.nd performance brought the audience to its feet. The next weekend, May 9-10, brought the girls to Lynch- burg for the play's final performance. For the second straight year, VES was able to use Lynchburg Col- lege's theater. Joel Bourne and Vic Millner provided
music with guitars, banjo and harmonica. The rest of the cast included Kerke Johnson, Scotty Scott and Kirk Rice. Each player portrayed several characters, thus creating the varied community of Spoon River, Illinois. Mr. Hopkins can add another triumph to his growing list of dramatic successes at VES.
