Vestige 1983
Once again, the V estige staff has put in long hours, working against deadlines in the hope of publishing the second spring yearbook in as many years. And, as always, the efforts of a few often go unnoticed by the majority until the book is delivered. Mr. Brown, V estige advisor, is pleased with the improvements shown in this year's annual, particularly in improved layout and in another record-breaking advertising campaign.
When Michael Edwards arrived at VES three years ago as a sophomore, the advertising department was barely a year old, and revenues practically nonexistent. As a junior Mike became advertising manger, launching an aggressive campaign that raised over $4,000 in ads. Building on his great success in 1982, Mike VI.JOrked even harder this year, surpassing last year's record by 33%. Singlehandedly, he sold over $6,500 in advertising this winter, thus bringing the total renenues since he became Ves- tige advertising manager to nearly $11,000.
Gene Grant, veteran of two years on the staff, provided the leadership as senior editor. He was aided by a predominantly junior staff, consisting of Blair Glenn, Wes Watkins, David Reynolds, and especially Page Robertson who pushed fellow staff members and himself to meet seemingly impossible dead- lines. Doug Huszti provided more artwork for the 1983 year- book than had been used in the past. John Bauknight, John Byrne, and Marc Manoli, sophomores, assisted in layout and design. Scott Ruffner, Mark Holmberg, and Warren Stephens (all newcomers in the spring) helped put together the spring supplement.
The photography staff, led by Sam Greenwood, spent many afternoons in the darkroom trying to keep up with the demands of the yearbook staff. Sammy Korschun, Brandon Fentress, and Marty Hyers were ever present with their cameras whenever there was the need.
During the spring term the juniors concentrated not only on completing the spring supplement for the 1983 Vestige; under the leadership of next year's editor, Page Robertson, they also worked hard with Mr. Brown to get an early start on the 1984 V estige. The future of the yearbook looks very bright indeed.
