there are also some that would
like to take a year off and go to England as an exchange student.
Those who do not wish to attend any of the larger schools would · like to go to either Washington
and Lee or Hampton-Sydney. As you can see, most of these schools are highly selective. They aren't interested in students who don't complete the year with a good academic record.
Each senior should keep in mind that the colleges have every right to withdraw their ac- ceptance. If a student is doing poorly in school after he has been accepted to a University, the ad-

Dear Jim,
A wimp is someone, or some
people, that have to make their point by showing oH for others. · A group of 20 guys are wimps when they gang up on one person and don't realize that it just is · not fair. Another example is when a wrestler plays macho with a burt guy and then con· tinuously talks trash about him.

Friday, February 1988 ahead, then they can do a little at
a time, but if they begin to slide then they are in trouble.
This was proven in the earlier part o( the year when the honor roll came out and the Ienior
had no one with a grade in the nineties. Each senior bad to read- just his thought and it is now becoming clearer what is ex- pected from them. For some, it
took a little persuasion from their parents but things are beginning to pick up. Whatever the school decides to do about the grading system and courses, there will always be a couple of slides but the number has decreased quite a bit.

Each year, there seems to be a number of seniors who take it easy once they have been ac- cepted into college. They feel that since they are in college, why not take it easy. They call their slackness, senior slide. The slide can take form in many dif-
ferent ways and it is virtually im- possible for any seni9r to avoid
it.
So far at least fifty-percent of
the seniors are in college. Each
senior has his own goals set for college. Most of them want to at-
tend such schools as the Univer- sity of North Carolina or North Carolina State. There are a cou-

This ·would leave the senior in quite a bind if he has already declined acceptance to other col- leges. The Class of 1983 has been plagued by a new grading system, which has cut down the number of slides, yet they are still occuring.
It is estimated that at least once, every senior has sat back and relaxed. With the new grade system, you can easily get caught. Just when you feel that all of your work is done, another load is given to you and it is all for
