have noticed five new and distinctively female faces in addition to the 97 or so new boys. · No, VES is not going co-ed.i These five females work at

There are many aspects in our community which are very im· portant in the development of a strong body of faculty and students. Participation in the honor and disciplinary systems, athletics and
clubs have all been very sufficiently impressed upon you. One aspect thatcanboostanyschoolbody,especiallyatYES,isastrongstudent- faculty relationship. This is important not only for the student, but
for the faculty also.
Although the student and faculty ages may possess a gap, that is
perhaps the only gap there is. Although the faculty is hired to teach, they are here to learn, just as the student is. Each faculty member wants to know t he student. It makes their job much easier, but it also means much to them personally if they can get to know those which he or she is associated with within the class. You need not be afraid of the faculty. Keep in mind that they are very eager to know the stu-
dent, and be should possess the eagerness as well. .
The student can benefit from a strong relationship. At a place such
as YES, students will need help or counseling at some point in their . career here. The VES faculty is the place where it can be found.
Whether it be a Calculus test or a Dear John letter, a teacher that
!mows you well will be much more and willing to respond and help and
will do so in a positive manner. A faculty member with whom you are comfortable can be a student's best friend. The VES faculty is here to serve the student and is very willing to do so. The student's effort to get to know these people will produce nothing but benefits. ·
Students at times become sour towards teachers because they seem quiet or closed to the student. The student and faculty alike,
