The Winter Booters are open- ing up the season against a strong EHS team. Returning from fall are both starting strik- ers and mid-fielders. Look for Joey Gallagher and George Rags- dale to pull up the rear. Fen Rascoe and "Goalie" Manoli will be protecting the net.

Leadership has played a key role in the success of the begin- ning of the season. Mr. Selinger
noted, "If the season is to be very successful, leadership will have to continue." The team is characterized by a lot of desire to win. Mr. Stancill has added a new
dimension to this year's team. Chris Gardner and Scooter Har- ris have played well so far. George Miller and Chad O'Neill have .shown great progress which should continue. The Var- sity Bishops won the LCA Tip- Off Tournament with two very
impressive victories. *****
The 1983-84 Varsity Wrestling team plan to carry-on its long- standing the leadership of coaches O'Brian and Armstrong and tri-captains W arren Stephens, Billy Hunter, and Ed
McNally, the team hopes to be in top wre;dling form in a m11tter of

Ced:ain roadblocks seem to hinder the "grapplers" from utilizing their total potential. More people are needed to fill the weight classes missing on the team, especially in the J.V. area,
and if V.E.S. wishes to continue its winning wrestling program, something will have to be done.

This year
ball team, under new coach Jeff
Ross, promises to have a Nery. good season. With the outside shooting of George Phillips and Robert Workman and the power moves of Trig Brody and Jamie
Sligh, the scoreboard is expecteli - to jump. The speed and ball- handling capabilities of others should help on both offense and defense. The Deacons first game was on Thursday the 15th
against LCA.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6th, the J.V. basketball team opened the sea- son with a 38-26 victory over the
Barons of Blue Ridge. The star- ting five, consisting of sopho- mores Bill Rice, Tripp Anderson,
Mac Caddell, Brian Williams, and Junior Alex Turner, are ex-
pected to be major contributors in a hopefully successful season. Coaches Jim Sullivan and Les Boney feel they have a strong bench and will do well this year.

night teammates include Harris (hit me on some more vitamins)
Brown, George (sweaty Mexican) Ragsdale, T. 0. (smiling bluffer) Williams, and, until he was banned for bad attitude, David (do-wrong Raleigh rag-man) Reynolds. Jones is confident about this'year's team but feels a week-long early poker camp would help future teams prepare for the rigors of late hours and the pressures of high stake vitamin betting.
