Next, the Bishop Linksters traveled to Blue Ridge winning by only a few shots. The team totals were V.E.S. 156 and Blue Ridge 162. Medalist for the match was again Jim Blount with a 2-<>ver par 38 and other scores were as follows: Ned Graff 38, Jim Richardson 39, and Rich Kerr at 42.
Continuing the upset streak, V.E.S. defeated Prince Edward Academy on April 22 by 19 strokes. Medalist was Rich Kerr with a 1 over parr 36 and other scores were: Jim Blount 38, Ned Graff 39, and AI W_heless last at 40. This was the first time V.E.S. played Prince Edward Academy in golf and I bet they hope it is the last. Prince Edward Academy had a thirty-five game winning streak before losing to the Bishops. When asked what their reaction was, Coach 'Mac' replied, "They didn't say very much ." V .E.S. is now 5-0 and hopes to keep this string of vic· tories alive through the Prep League Championship.

On April 4, V.E.S. suffered a
tough loss to Blue Ridge by a score of 7 to 2. Singles winners were Rick Gayle and John Foster. Charles Davis, Kirk
Gilleland, Alexander Boone, and Tom Whitten suffered losses to
the tough Blue Ridge team. The doubles teams also lost but Coach Foster notes, "We're a young team and lost four top seniors last year."
Then V.E.S. bounced back with a victory over Forsyth Country Day. Winners for the match were Charles Davis, Rich
Gayle, John Foster, Alexander Boone an~ Tom Whitten. The doubles teams also won all three matches.
Next V.E.S. suffered a tough loss to Woodberry by a score of 5-3. The only singles winner was Alexander Boone in straight sets 7·5, 7-5. Doubles winners were: Rich Gayle and Billy Nease and John Foster and Alexander

The Golf Team started out their season with a victory against Hargrave. V.E.S. shot a team total of 167 to win by 37 strokes. Medalist for the match

Jim Blount 81, and John Flippin witha total of 82. This was the first time V.E.S. has defeated Woodberry at home in ten years and first time V.E.S. has beaten them in golf in six years.

The one words that comes to mind when one things of this year's track team is sma ll. Although there are only 25 members on the team, they are consistently having strong show- ings. A parents' weekend victory over a young Trinity team and a close loss to perennial track champ St. Christopher's have alerted many Prep League
teams that V.E.S. is a real threat. Strong performances have been recorded by hurdler Mike George and pole-vaulter Brian Rash. Robert Workman, another pole-vaulter, is consistently im· proving. Both men have vaulted 12 feet, an almost unheard-of oc· curance. Llyal Gordon continu ~ to do well in the longer distances
