Question 1: What can VES do as a community to instill
more school spirit?
Jeff Engel - I feel that if we
could have pep rallies, every- one would get more excited about athletic contests. There would be more of a feeling of togetherness.
David Fant - As a com- munity we should have more school sanctioned ac-tivities
such as class trips. In doing this, students who otherwise do not associate to-gether would be
the community that there will 1be changes in some of the systems at VES. For one, Mr. Zimmer created a Student G<>vernment Study Committee. This doesn't mean there will be a definite change from the present Counselor Body Sys-
tem. The chaitman is Mr. Meador and the faculty re- presentatives consist of Mark Armstrong, Gail Foster, Peter Goodnow, and Karl Sjolund.
Students on the committee are Jim Battle, Jay Burnett, Kris Payne, Herndon Stokes, and
Chip Tydings. The committee members will evaluate our system and study other schools' student governments. It will make recommendations based on their findings to the Chair-
Reed Skaggs - We should have truly dedicated sports teams to insure that everyone
gets into the winning spirit. If we had cheerleaders to support our teams we all would support
athletic teams.

for a Edmund Potter - My first
year at V.E.S., six years ago, there were many pep rallies and they were always well attended. People really got pumped up. Furthennore, we used to have varsity cheer- leaders, and they always attracted a crowd. Lastly, we
should have more social activities bringing the day
students and boarders together
Question 2: What can we do as a country to decrease poverty in our nation'• cities?
Mr. McCormick - Instead of sending aid to foreign countries, we should worry about problems closer to home. The idea of inner city soup kitchens is very positive one, and one that we should continue.
Peter Cronin • Clearly we need to offer the poor more
jobs. With the expansion of inner-city building projects, thou1ands of jobs open up. These job11 1hould be re rved
forth needy.
