In January, 1917, the first steps towards the formation of a Literary Society were taken, and on January 27, the first meeting of the Jett Literary Society was held. They met frequently for the purpose of reading and discussing works of clas- sical authors. They also held debates periodically. It was almost like an early Dead Poets Society.
