UNDERCLASSMEN-In the ear- ly years at VES, all new students were referred to as "Rats", and they lived under the "Rat Sys- tem". The " Rats" were ordered by the older boys to do various things for them, such as making beds and shining shoes. Even- tually this system was abolished and today new students are sim- ply known as new boys and new girls.
