The 1991 Varsity Lax team was full of character. We accepted de- feat gracefully and won our few games gallantly.
While most teams have four lines of mid-fielders, we had four middies. Lack of numbers, inexperience, and injuries plagued the season from the start.
Anchoring the defense after much reform, Owen James proved himself to be a formidable and reliable goalie. Graham Kirkman surprised us all, leading the team in takeaways, and Sheldon Rhyne, our Most Improved Player, became a permanent starter. Tri-captain Alf Wang played extremely consistently and became a great team leader (even stepping in the goal when he was desperately needed).
In the midfield, Tri-captains Clint Harris and Walt Coles marshalled the offense. Walt Coles, MVP Of-
tense, had 12 goals and 2 assists and picked up an amazing 102 ground balls. ClintHarris, MVP and All-Prep, had 14 goals, 10 assists, and snagged 64 ground balls. On defensive midfield, Buddy Perry, MVP Defense, was an integral part of the defense, often stopping the ball before it entered the defensive end.
Bob Kluttz and Smith Maddrey consistently led the attack being third and fourth, respectively, in points. The amazing Zach Sizer even scored one himself.
Most important was Coach Arlot- to. Unfortunately his last season was rather disappointing, but there was more individual improvement on the field than can be imagined. With only a little more time, our coaches could have made us into a winning team .
