Greenwood Annual Report 2017/2018 5 Manage the Transition to Our New Campus The second year in our expanded and renovated facilities was again a positive one. Our most recent student engagement survey (conducted by The Learning Bar) indicates that students enjoy their new learning environment and feel at ease in social spaces, and relationships between students continue to be strong. New roles in student life and leadership, including those of Director, Student Life and Director, Grade 7 and 8 program, allowed for more efficient use of staff time and resources. Our House program coordinators and captains spearheaded greatly improved school spirit across grades through more consistent House activities and an expanded points structure. The new performance theatre supported and enhanced a wide variety of subjects and extracurriculars this year, hosting guest speakers and the dance program in addition to class activities and grade-wide presentations; our new rooftop terrace also saw increased use, becoming a popular lunchtime spot and hosting our annual Alumni Reunion. Address the Changing Needs of Students Across the Grades The personalized learning and age and stage continuums, both created to ensure a customized experience for our students, were put into practice this year. Several professional development sessions focused on helping teachers take existing course content and adapt it using the personalized learning continuum, and our learning skills rubric was refined to align with the age and stage continuum. We developed an age and stage framework to be used in the co-teaching model, and teachers also had the opportunity to provide input on the colleagues with whom they want to co-teach. Survey results from students in semestered courses were positive; we are using this feedback to determine which courses should be delivered in a semestered format moving forward. Our Adviser program provided parents with guidance on limiting the use of digital technology, resulting in increased student engagement. Our annual Alumni Survey was also revised to include questions about academic skills and specific program-related preparation; this data will be used to further refine our Grade 11 and 12 programs. 2 3
