organized a block of tickets for
the Form of ’88 to see Annie in
NewYork City. Several members
of the form and their families
attended, and by all reports it
was a terrific evening. Thank
you, Sally, for making it happen!
I got to see Jessica Thompson
Somol while she was in the Bay
Area this fall. I also spent some
quality time over one or two (or
ten) glasses of wine with Matt
Aiken and his wife, Patsy, while
attending the first day of school
and Family Weekend from the
parent side.

husband, Matt, and I just had
our third (and last!) baby on
November 15, 2013. George
Gustav Himes rounds out sis-
ters Margaret Lisenby Himes
and Edith Helen Himes. We
are living in Los Angeles and
see a lot of the SPS crew out
here. Going to dinner with Nick
Morton ’89 and Marie Schley
’90 tonight, in fact! Matt works
for Fox Entertainment, and I am
still slogging away at Canyon
Partners (the Death Star, as I
affectionately call it. Happy
New Year and love to all!”

“My passion for ensuring our
education system works for
every student has led me to a
job with Indiana Governor Mike
Pence’s administration, where
I serve as special assistant to
the governor for education in-
novation and co-direct a new
state agency called the Center
for Education and Career In-
novation. It has been an honor
(as well as a very humbling
experience, to say the least!)
to work in public service. My
husband, Troy, still works in the
life sciences field. Our children,
Xavier (10) and Olivia (8), are a
delight and keep us on our toes.
I hope my fellow SPS alums are
doing well!”
MeganDuryea Scott writes:
“We went up to Boston for a
wonderful Thanksgiving. A
highlight of the trip was getting
in a visit with Emily Buxton
McCann , her husband, Sean,
and their four children. So
fun to catch up and get the
kids together. Everyone seems
incredibly well. Lots of hockey,
gymnastics, and ballet happen-
ing in the McCann household!”
Margaret Van Orman Hig-
gins wrote us this brief update:
“I am living on Long Island with
my husband and three children,
11-year-old twins, Cate and
Charlie, who are in fifth grade,
and 8-year-old Tommy, who is
in third grade. All is well and life
is very busy. If anyone is in the
area, give a call.”
This January note from
Chapin Mechem: “I rode in my
second Pan-Mass Challenge
this summer, a two-day, 200-
mile bike across Massachusetts
to raise money for cancer re-
search at Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
What an amazing weekend,
and thank you to so many SPS
friends for your generous sup-
port. Definitely planning to ride
again in 2014, so let me know if
any of you will be out there.”
Ellen Bruce Hinman sent us
this winter update: “After over a
decade of teaching and coaching
at Taft, I have moved to Need-
ham, Mass., with my husband,
Dave, and our three children,
Emily, Sam, and Charlie. I am
now head of the upper school
at Dexter Southfield, and Dave
is the athletic director at St.
Sebastian’s. We are loving being
in the Boston area, and we get to
see many SPS friends, including
Emily Buxton McCann and
Francie Walton Karlen and
their families.”
Weston Garrett writes: “We
have been thrilled to have our
eldest, Harrison ’16 , attending
SPS as a new Fourth Former.
It has been great to be back
on campus to see many tradi-
tions continue and the many
improvements that enrich the
lives of current students.”

Marcy Chong reports: “Rebec-
ca Doucette spent eight weeks
in the summer of 2013 running,
sweating, low-crawling, and
not sleeping in South Dakota as
part of the fun and pain that is
National Guard Accelerated Of-
ficer Candidate School. She was
awarded with the Distinguished
Honor Graduate and Physical
Fitness Awards. Her new rank is
U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant. She
also spent another five weeks
brushing up her Arabic skills.
Sophie Backus recently re-
located to Florida and is work-
ing in home health. She made a
spring visit to Vermont for my
40th birthday party along with
TamsenWilliams and Kirsten
Ruemenapp. She also made
it to a gathering in New York
Charlotte Smith ’93 and hus-
band Mark ’92 welcomed Louisa
Bacon Smith on October 15,
2013.
Daniel Dunn ’91 and his wife,
Jennifer, had their first child,
Imogen Isla Dunn, on Octo-
ber 25, 2013.
Charlotte Ann Granter Milan ’93
and her husband, Christopher
Spill, welcomed their first child,
Greyson Granter Spill, on No-
vember 5, 2013.
Big brother Owen, son of Sarah

come baby Eli.
