This katydid has broad, angled forewings which allow it to look like a leaf as it perches in a tree (the one shown is on a willow tree). The angular-winged katydid is about 2½ inches long. It winters over as eggs, which the female attaches to the leaf or stem of plants at the end of summer.
The angular-winged katydid is a long-horned grasshopper (family Tettigoniidae), having very long antennae and a typanum on each front leg. Females have a long, thin ovipositor.
