Plants are divided according to wetland indicator categories for Tennessee (Region 2, southeast) derived from USDA, NRCS.2004. The National Plant database version 3.5 (http://plants.usda.gov). National Plant Data Center, Baton Rouge, LA 70874-4490. Some of the plants found on the periphery of the wetland area are Facultative Upland plants.
Obligate Wetland Plants (OBL): Almost always occur in wetlands.
Facultative Wetland Plants (FACW): Usually occur in wetlands, but occasionally found in non-wetlands. Subcategory FACW+ is closer to OBL
Facultative Plants (FAC): Equally likely to occur in wetlands and non-wetlands. FAC includes subcategories FAC+ (nearer to FACW) and FAC- (nearer to FACU).
Facultative Upland Plants (FACU): Usually occur in uplands, but are occasionally found in wetlands.
