Eastern or Common Cottonwood
Populus deltoides

Eastern or Common Cottonwood (Populus deltoids) trees are usually found in wet lowlands, and also grow on wet, sandy inclines. They are found in the eastern region of the United States. In our wetlands they are found in the south and near the road. The leaves (2-8 inches) are as wide as they are long, with a pointed tip and toothed edges. The bark is identified as dark gray and is rigid. The higher branches are smooth and greenish yellow. Cottonwoods are related to poplars and aspens.
