American Elm
Ulmus americana

The American Elm tree grows to be around 100 feet tall. Its bark is flaky and grayish brown when mature. The leaves are serrated and ovate. The tree produces samaras: dry single seeded, winged, wafer-like fruits. The tree is found in the Eastern and Midwest parts of the US. It has been greatly depleted by Dutch Elm Disease, a fungus infection that clogs the tree's vascular system.
