Fogfruit or Lanceleaf Fogfruit Phyla lanceolata

This plant is found in moist open areas and grows even in water. It grows among the smartweed in our wetlands. The stems lie flat with branches up to a foot or more rising vertically from them. The opposite, lanceolate leaves are toothed at the edges near the tip. The tiny flowers are arrayed on a flower head at the top of a long stalk. Each flower is whitish-pink and has four petals and a yellow or pink center.
