Cone-Headed Grasshopper
subfamily Copiphorinae

The cone-headed grasshopper is distinctive because of its very pointed head and, in the female, the ovipositor which is about the same length as the total insect. The ovipositor is typical of the long-horned grasshoppers (Family Tettigoniidae), which have a tympanum (hearing organ) on each front leg.
