Obscure Bird Grasshopper
Schistocera obscura

This grasshopper belongs to the subfamily of spur-throated grasshoppers. It has a green body with a distinctive yellow dorsal stripe running from the front of the head to the tip of the forewings. Its wings are brown or olive green and the tibia on the hind legs has yellow spines with black tips. Males are about one and a half inches long, while females are two or more inches. These grasshoppers are most often found in fields and open woodlands, but here they are seen in the middle of the wetland area.
