These are thin snakes about 2 to 3 feet long and have longitudinal stripes. They are semi-aquatic and feed on frogs and small fish. The young are born live in summer and are about 8 inches long at birth. These snakes have been seen basking in clumps of Juncus or in the grass at the edge of the wetland area.
