Snapping Turtle
Chelydra serpentina

This turtle is dark gray, the segments of the carapace are distinct and pointed, and the tail is unusually long. Although they are considered mainly aquatic and are good swimmers, these turtles have been seen out of the water , even basking in the graveled parking lot. Snapping turtles should never be handled as they live up to their name and bite!
