Two-Striped Grasshopper
Mermiria bivittata

This grasshopper is named for the two distinctive brown stripes starting at the head and extending towards the abdomen where they become more diffuse. The grasshopper, which is about 2 inches long, also has reddish spines on the hind leg. two-striped grasshoppers are found among grasses in the summer and they are capable of flying, as well as jumping, to escape predators.

Eggs are "injected" into soft soil by the female and the hatched nymphs work their way upwards before they start feeding.
