Heddie was seized by a sudden overpowering fit of rage. He went to the bed and gazed down upon the face of the sleeper. Ile noticed that this face was strangely f:nniliar. On looking closer, he discoYered with much amazement that this man, so defenseless and entirely in his power, was no other than his second lieutenant while he was serving in the army for Uncle Sam. Heddic could not control his emotions, for he had heartily hated and despised this man.
Heddie stood thinking, thinking. To snap out the life of his sworn enemy in such an easy manner would not hal£ atone for tho wrongs and mean acts that he had recci\·ed at this man's hands. What was he to do, now that his hour of re- venge had come?
