We were defeated on Saturday, April 2d, in onr first" baseball game, which was with Woodberry Forest at Wood- berry, by the above score. Althongh we hit more freqnently than om opponents, our inability to field the ball kept them ahead most of the time. The batting of Capt. l3ucknrr for us was the feature of tl1e game. Out of four trips to the plate he made foUl' hits, two of which were three-baggers. Cobb played a good game for \Voodberry.

Jn the first home game of the season we defeated Char- lottcsYille lligh School by the score of G-4. Lee, on the mound for V. E. S., held the visitors hitless for six innings.
The first counter for Va. Episcopnl was made in the second inning on singles b~· Barber and Humphries and a stolen base by Barber. Charlottesville scored their first tally in the seventh on a single, a donble, nnd a base on balls. In their half of the seventh, Va.
