Johnny did not wish him any lund luck, but he know that if Jones didn't play, he would have n chance to get in.
}'or the next few days Johnny worked very han1 and tt·ieu to get on the good side of the coach. He was determined to play in the last and biggest game of the year. Since he was lmn·ing school this year, this would be his last chaHce to play high school foot-ball.
The day for the big game arrived and found a very ex- cited Johnny_ The game began with Captain Jones. Both teams wc1·e fighting hard. All of a sudden Jones fell to the ground and the whole team gathm·ed around b1m. The coach rtlshcd on the field while everyone remained in deep suspense. The coach saw that the accideut was serious, aud he y<'Jlcd for Johnny to come out on the fit>ld. A fceliug of joy ran through him, for he knew that after patient waiting his time had come. Rushing out on the field Johnny soon reached the conch and said, "He1·e I am, what do you want me to play?"
"Where do I want you to play? I don't want you to play anywhere," said the conch.
''\\'ell then, what am I to do~" said Johnny in disgust.
The coach then yelled in a rough voice, "Take off your pants and gi...-e them to Jones; his m·e torn."
Johuny proceeded to take off his pants, and when he had put on the torn ones, he did not wai.t for the cud of the gant(', Ullt he went straight home. After n. gt·cat deal of swearing ltc ut last came to the conclusion thal he was not built for foot-ball. J. H.
