)larch 21st, the fir·st day of spring, was celebrated in a great mnny ways. Indeed! it was the most eventf11l da~· of the year. Linwood, succumbing to the ~ea~on's influence, was married; Rishop Jctt paid ns a visit; )[r. "Jfattficld observed with cake, candy and demerits the annivcrsar,\' of his 11ativity; nnd we started on those ex~mination;;, which we always pass.
There was a great deal of sickness during the middle term, but the school has recovered now. A few boys went home before the examinations and took them after the holidays.
:March 24th, the annual 1·cading and debating contest with St. Christopher's was held here. Tho readers for St. Christopher's were Jameson and Gibson, and thosP for V. E. S. were Gunn and 1\liller. Gmm canicd away the honors in this half of the contest. The question for debate was, "Resolved: that the open shop principle apply in Ameri- can industry." St. Christopher's upheld the negative with Osgood and Trimble as her 1·epresentntives. :i\1. Coleman and Goldsmith, who had previousl,v been selected .in pre- ]iminnrics, supported the affirmative for us. The negative won, but the decision was very close. After the reafling and debating, :Mr. Kinnear after having given a short and humorous talk gave the "V" for basket-ball to the following: Lee, 1\fead, Tony, Frazier, B. Rogers and Goldsmith; the manager's "V E" was awarded to Gamble.
l.Iarch 28th, the Easter Vacation arrived. Man~· looked forward to that week of pleasures which have been so severely censored in a previous issue of this magazine.
