B. M. A. DEFEATS BISHOPS
IN HEAVY HITTING FRAY
Clemens and Baskervill Lead Garnet Sluggers at Blackstone
In a. free-hitting, loosely-played ball game, the Blackstone Military Academy diamond artists handed the Virginia Episopal School a severe setback, 16-6 at Blackstone on April
15. The powerful B. M.. A. sluggers sent a barrage of hits to all corners of the lot, and drove Captain Harris from the hillock in the fifth canto. Up to this point the Cadets had made seven hits, which, coupled with
numerous V. E. S. miscues, were good for fifteen runs. Ashton then took the mound aDd held the Blackstone batters to one run during the re- mainder of the game.
· Clemens Hits Homer
W. Baskervill led the Virginia Episcopal hitters with three safeties
out of five trips to the plate. Clemens connected for two, one of which was a home run. Crawley and Cobb led the Blackstone contingent with three bingles out of five chances.
The Bishops opened strong, taking three runs in the initial frame. Con- rad led off with a base on balls, and stole second, Harris grounded out, Poole to Cobb. Harrison grounded out, Green to Cobb. Clem- ens then poled out a healthy four- base blow, scoring Conrad ahead of him. Baskervill singled. Rust fol- lowed this with a three-bagger, Bas- kervill scoring, and Hanft' popped up
to Bays to retire the side.
The Soldiers came back in the
next inning to go into a 4-3 lead. Poole opened with a triple. Green was out when Holberton muffed his last strike and pegged to first. Rob- erts hit for two bases, scoring Poole. Burnett was out on a throw to first by H olberton. Botts was safe on Rust's error. Bays hit for the cir- cuit, scoring Botts. Smith was out,
to retire the side.
The game was a track meet for
the remainder of the game and Blackstone came out well ahead.

betterment of their race and country. 1VIr. 'l'ucker pointed out that in a country in such a state of disorder as China this was not hard to under- stand, since at any time all of one's personal belongings might be swept away by a famine, war, or any of the other disturbances, both physical
and political, to which China seems to be peculiarly subject. In event that any of these troubles came along it was always very nice to have some- thing to fall back on.
