undoubtedly share the hurling chores in most of the games. Cowdery. who fires 'em from the port side. is do- ing a good portion of the pitching during practices and his job is ex- tremely important to the team.
Behind the bat, Edgar Betty ~eems to he holding his own. but not without stiff competition from Bill (Searun !) Long.
On first base. :Matthews appears to have a rather firm hold. ~fatthew, has had previous experience in sand- lot ball, hut Gower has a good chance of seeing plenty of action.
At the keystone sack. Jack Par- rott. Frank Bennett. J. B. Timber- lake, and Long appear to be about equally talented. while on the other ~ide of the base at short may be
seen Chergey. or Timberlake when the former is pitching.
.\t third base. John C. Williams is expected to take over the "hot corner'' where he left off last year. ''AI" is one of the three returning lettermen and is captain of the '-t4 Bishops.
Also a good amount of reserve strength in the infield is supplied hy W esley Jones. who is backing up ''AI" at third. and Gibson, Smith, and A ldred.
Jn the outfield there are manv prospects and future Di:\[aggios. Andreae Hodgson and Jim Herrick. the other two lettermen, are repeat- ers from last year's outfield. Hed- rick. Perkins, C.. Peele. Claytor, Hynes, Hileman. Page. and Jones.
B., may see a great deal of action out where the grass grows high.
Dick Claytor is the only other repeater from last year. He is the manager again, ably assisted by Murray, A., Fowler, Sublett, and :\Tormoyle.
... And Track-
Down in the woods where the ] ohnson Athletic Field is situated. Coach Crowson is busily building up a team of harriers to represent V. E. S. this spring! He, like ~Ir. Short, has but three lettermen around whom he can form a tt>am.
Prospects lean definitely toward the track rather than the field events. In the weights, Graham Koch, a point gainer last season, and Clay
