similar rooms that ar7 very well taken care of. Why can't it be that way here? We could develop the basement of W est Dormitory into a very nice place. The V-Ciub and Aeronautical Organ- ization have club-rooms there, the Camera Club's dark room is there. These, plus the recreation room, could be properly cared for, and turned into a true "recreational" room instead of the dirty, broken-up shambles that it is now. Let's see

OPINIONS
An old proverb, "that bird is not honest that fouleth his own nest," is easily applicable to an existing situa- tion at V. E. S. A perverted group of boys here seem to take a certain joy in destroying school property. Why this should be no one knows, unless the offenders think that they are getting back at the school for
some supposed injustice. This group wreaks most of its havoc in the re- creational room in the basement of W est Dormitory. Nearly every day some new damage is done.
Something should be done to im- press the fact on these boys that they are hurting themselves more than the school. As the old saying goes, they are "cutting off their nose to spite their face." The school doesn't care what the recreation room looks like. It doesn't even
care whether the room is there or not. It merely designated the room as a place for the boys to spend their spare time in bad weather. What condition the room is in is entirely up to the boys. It seems that the boys who care enough about the room to use it would see that it is taken care of, and that the boys who are causing the destruction are

though firm, hand. She takes a re~ interest in all the boys and is tire less in her efforts for their comfor and well-being while they are in he care.
As Mrs. Payne is "Boss" in the in firmary, so is Mrs. Dawson "Boss" i the kitchen. Mrs. Dawson came tc V. E. S. in 1921as the wife of Mr Philip Dawson (Uncle Phil). She ha: had sole charge of the kitchen fo nearly fifteen years. In this time she has found a way to every V. E. S boy's heart, not only through his stomach but by her delightful per sonality and kindly nature. Mrs. Daw. son has done an exceptionally fine job in keeping good, wholesome fooc in the School dining room, despite wartime shortages and substitutes.
In this small way may we, the boys of V. E. S., show our admiration, respect, and appreciation for the unselfish effort these two grand old ladies have put forth for us.
