by VES with 40.7 and the Cadets with 29.4. Woodberry placed first in a!l of the field events except one, Harris copping the javelin for VES with a heave of 132 feet 8 inches. The Bishops also took first in the 440, the 800 and the mile. Horton of Woodberry took three firsts, win- ning the I00 and the 220 and the broad jump. Page of VES won the 440 and the 880.

collected 29.4 points. The state meet was postponed and in the meantime the Garnet and White walloped Fork Union 73-43, taking nine first places and tieing for two others. For the third straight year, the track at the University was rain soaked and for the fifth straight year Wood- berry walked away with the state prep school track crown. The Orange and Black amassed a total of 750 points. Trailing were: Staunton Mili- t a r y A c a d e m y , 3 9 ; V i r g i n i a Ep i s c o - pal School, 18; A ugusta Military Academy, 13; Massanutten Military Academy, 2 0 ; and Fishburne Mili- tary School, 2. John Page was the only Bishop to take a first place, cop- ping the 880 far ahead of the next nearest man. He also took second place in the 440 behind Woodberry's Murphy, whom he had beaten in the
meet at Woodberry.
And so ended VES athletics for an-
other year. With the exception of the track team which almost dupli- cated its last year's record except for taking third in the state meet compared with last year's fourth place, athletics were on the steep downgrade. Lack of experience was a main factor. The absence of larger boys played a major role. Unfor- tunately, lack of team spirit and lack of school spirit were ever present. It is the hope of everyone that VES will go back to its usual high place in athletics in the near future. Down with moral victories! Points are what
