He graduated from V. M. I. in 1934, and from there he entered the Virginia Theological Seminary, and before coming to V. E. S. was rector of the Episcopal parish at Brandon. During the war he was a member of
the R. A. F. Ferry Command.
Upon leaving Lynchburg Mr. Mil- ton took a position at Peninsular Air-
port, near Newport News, as flying instructor, flying being one of his major hobbies. This job, however, is only temporary, as he plans to resume educational work next fall.

when I19 tired but happy inmates filed back through the "steel doors." They might have been even more happy had they realized that Christ- mas vacation, that Mecca of all V. E. S. pilgrims, was only four weeks off.
During the blessed interim many boys presented themselves to the out- side world for the first time in three long months, while others remained at the school gorging themselves on a Thanksgiving dinner that would be a tribute to anyone's culinary art.
The Christmas vacation, the time until which many boys can tell in sec- onds, will begin on December 20th and end on January 6, 1947. In this connection a Christmas Dance, to be held December 14, had been planned by the Hop Committee, but the plans were nullified by the expressed pref- erence of the student body to attend the Duke-Virginia basketball game in the Lynchburg Armory the same night.

O~ce more the gym has begun to resound every other Saturday night from eight to ten o'clock with sounds of ancient records being played over and over again on an ancient phono- graph, of clumsy feet, of the silly laughs of twelve-year-old girls and of a voice counting "1-2-3-4," then a shrill whistle and a loud cry, "double break!"
These noises are due, of course, to the annual descent of Miss Floyd Ward's dancing class on V. E. S. This class, conducted by Miss W ard or one of her sisters, has almost become a V. E. S. institution after so many years of occupancy. The order of in- struction remains the same this year as in previous years. From 8 p. m. to 8:30 there is instruction for begin- ners, of which there is a goodly num- ber this year* and from 8:30 to 9:45 advance instruction, such as jive, and general dancing. Boys may have any Lynchburg girl they want invited to the Cotillion.
On December 7th Miss Ward gave her annual Christmas party, which was one of the special occasions she sug- gested in her talk to the student body on November 7th before the begin- ning of the class.

Although card playing was illegal at V. E. S. until last year, many games, especially contract bridge, achieved a great prominence after its sanction- ing, and this prominence has been transferred, with great fervor, to this year.
Almost any time on weekends and many school day afternoons, the "girls" gather for sessions of their fav-
orite sport. Sometimes, however, the smoke becomes so thick that one can scarcely penetrate the haze to ascer- tain whether it is bridge or one of its more disreputable colleagues that is going on. In fact, the atmosphere is much like that of poker playing, min- us, of course (?), the bottles.
The main "hounds" are Bell, D. C., both Gowers, Reed, Craft, P., Duffey, and Zander, and their "theatres of operation" the gym, the infirmary, the great outdoors, or just any place where one can put four chairs and a table and a good supply of "weeds."
