Hargrave Down
Line-up HARGRAVE
Receiving the kick off Hargrave was unable to get an offensive func- tioning and punted. On the first play after taking over in their own terri- tory, Jackson hit no less than six times, broke lose and ran the ball 46 yards only to be called back by a clipping penalty. Even with the penalty, t he run was good for first down.
Then Jackson unlimbered his left arm passing again. In the five plays that followed, the ball went to Jack- son three times. Twice in three tries, he hit receivers for 8 and IS yard gains. Then he went off tackle for 7 yards. The next was to Bob White and provided the winning touchdown.
Maddux sent the ball through the up- right for the extra point.
Both teams then waged a bitter defensive battle, with the Bishops managing to keep the visitors close to their own goal line.
As the third period opened penal- ties forced both teams to exchange punts before Jackson finally broke through the complete W oodberry- Forest forward wall to run 30 yards and give the V. E. S. squad its other tally. Leonard Muses' recovery of a Woodberry-Forest fumble in the third quarter stopped the only steady

Academy of Chatham 13-6.
Trailing by the score of 6-0 in the
final period, the Bishops saw Har- grave slam the door on one near score. Then after Hargrave punted 40 yards from their goal line the Bishops stormed back through the air to tie the score and minutes later captured the deciding touchdown.
Soon after the second half started the Bishops took the ball deep in their own territory and marched 44 yards before losing the ball on the cadets 41 yard line. Fuor plays later, Ron- nie Marshall broke through to recover Goodmans fumble on the V. E. S. 43. Hal Jackson tossed to Tommy Battle for 18 yards. Next he picked out
Fred Ogden and hit with a 25 yard pass to put the ball on the five yard line, but at that point the visitors line stiffened and repulsed four tries at the goal. Hargrave kicked out to the 40.
Then Jackson began tossing them again. His first went 30 yards to Brown Finch. After two ground plays had failed, Jackson fell back and passed to Freddie Ogden who caught it on the one yard line and carried it over. What appeared at that time to be the all important kick went off the side of W ebb Maddux's shoe and was no good.

fine defensive play with the exception of being weak on blocking. Buck Nutt's line plunges also proved effec- tive against the much larger Hargrave team.

The well coached Garnet and White eleven chalked up victory No. 4 as they trounced Fishburne Military School of Waynesboro 3 1-18. The light Bishop squad pushed a much heavier Fishburne team all over the gridiron to beat them for the first time in four years.
The Bishops opened the game like a bullet shot out of a gun as they tore holes in the Fishburne line for num- erous lo ng gains. Hal Jackson after tearing around left end for a first down within fifteen yards of pay dirt, carried the leather over for the Bishops, first tally. Later Brown Finch recovered a fumble by Jack Garst of Fishburne and set the Bishops up for their second TD. Hal Jackson, again from his quarterback slot, carried the ball around left end for twenty yards this time and his second tally of the game. W ebb Maddux, leftguard, and prospect for all state honors found the mark between the goal posts to make the count 13-0. Then one of those things happened in the

Paced by Captain Hal Jackson, the smooth Virginia Episcopal School grid squad pulled its second victory out of the bag by defeating a heavily favored Woodberry-Forest aggregation 13-0 before a home- coming crowd of I,000 fans.
Taking charge of the game soon after the opening kick-off the Bishops were threatened only once during the remainder of the tilt. Buck Nutt and Jackson combined to provide the Bishop's attack as the V. E. S. team remained undefeated and untied in three outings.
John Thomas led the Bishops' de- fense as he broke through to throw the Woodberry-Forest team for sev- eral losses. The Bishops' first score came on the last play oi' the first period when Jackson swept around left end on a I0 yard broken field run to climax a 48 yard march. Webb
