II Goats Survive V-Club Initiation
Two weeks ago eleven lucky (?) boys who had earned their first varsity letters became grimy goats and the spring V-Ciub initiation began. After a grueling afternoon of enduring punishment, the likes of which can be found in only one other place, the goats prepared for the skit. The theme was a May court, with Stellar
Jeannie Farinholt as May Queen. The show o p e n e d with Miss Farinholt bumping and grinding her way around the dining room and finally taking her ploce on the flowered throne. Then came the queen's attendants, Miss Miltina Barber, Mi ss Blairina Farinholt and Miss Bee Bee Hudgins, each singing a song before they took their places next to the Queen. The program continued in the usual May Day fashion with rain, but this rain was in the form of Miss Maxticia Proctor, Miss Gissy Roe, Miss Nixeve Steglitz,
and Miss Stephanie Quillen who trip- ped, and I mean tripped, around the dining room. Then came the lighten- ing played b y Miss Saxey Sibley, spearing his way to the pandemonium taking place before the Queen. Then as the final blow came thunder played by Miss Josephene Banks booming across the floor in a jet black dress. But what's this? Ah yes, all is not lost as Miss Frances Gilmer comes as the sun. She entered crooning "You are my Sunshine" to the tune of a steel guitar. With Rain, Lightening, and Thunder now prostrated before the Queen, Frances took the oppor~ +unity to crown the Queen in tradi- tional fashion. The Queen and her at- tendants then presented their flowers to Dr. Barton, Mr. Banks, Mr. Wyatt,
and Mr. Gannaway as the rest of the young ladies left the dining room.
Costumes, makeup, choreography and general direction were done by Tom Creasy. The V-Ciub is indebted to the wives of the faculty for such generous help in costumes and much needed technical advice.
The end of the skit, however, did not bring the end of the initiation as the grimy goats had a whole night of torture ahead of them. Sunday many found eleven boys full fledged members of the V.Ciub, and enjoying the fact that they were still alive.
