Old Astrologer
As the month of June creeps around, "Ye" Old Astrologer polishes his lens for the last time before the summer vacation. He quickly levels his gaze toward the Blue Ridge foot hills. But what's this-No it cant be!! 0 gosh-! But it is-A May Day. Well of all things! There upon the throne are Jeanny and Blairina Farinholt as Queen and May Queen
respectively. But what are those weird looking creatures. 0 I see, they are rain drops. And behind their grorious costumes of stage drops I see Maxtisha Proctor, Gissy Roe, Stephanie Quillen and Nixeve Stieglitz.
The days continue to roll and the Old Astrologer watches closely as 27 heartbroken boys prepare to leave the old foothills for good. Af- ter the "V" club banquet comes the counselor, letterman banquet, and then exams and then-the-day.
As the final speeches are made the Old Astrologer tries hard to hold back the tears. He looks around at the never to be forgotten buddie. He spies Peirson and remembers the day he won his first I 00 yd. dash but was disqualified for running on his finger. The beauty contest "Geek" won but he was also dis- qualified for wearing a mask. Cocker- ilia whose hobby was shooting him- self. G. T. Smith who spent his days at V. E. S. running from the Lynch- b u r g girls. A n d W i n s t o n , shall we say, chasing after all the Lynchburg girls.
He suddenly spies F. Carrington, Hudgins, and Braxton carrying on a last bit of dice throwing before the
su mmer begins.
As the boys begin to depart the Old Astrologer strains his telescope to get the direction of all the fellows.
