Mr. Austin's Death
During the latter P.art of the sum-
mer, a man familiar to many alumni passed away. Mr. Austin, who was the farmer here at school for the last five years, died in the University Hospital in Charlottesville on Sep- tember 2. Mr. Austin first came to the school in 1920 and faithfully served it for eight years. From that time, until 1947, he worked in Reus- ens. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Wesley, his youngest son, has taken over his du- ties about school, in addition to run- ning the form. Returning to V.E.S. five years ago, he spent the remain- ing years of his life working here. For the school, the Met e or wishes to extend its sympathy to his family.

Ole Astrologer
After a searing summer the Ole Astrologer wipes the stardust from his celestial scope and returns to view the startling sphere of strange sta- tures and slouching psychos at "Ole
140."
A milling mob meets his eye. Is it homecoming already? No, it's only a numerous number of noxious new boys.
Later he trains his lunar lens on the athletic field. He sees the ground quaking and the trees shuddering. A stampede of wild elephants? No, it's "Our Squad" led by "Tally" Kemper and "Wimpy" Chandler. (P!ug requested by "Lug.")
Snorts and grunts drift angrily from the grid until these sounds are drowned out by a scream of unde- scribable agony. Disaster has struck again! The victim uproots turf and writhes in pure and honest affliction. The first V.E.S. player goes out for the season.
What is the crowd outside study hall? It has the appearance of a Republican convention, as the shrill cries of "We like Spike" ring over the campus. Our modest candidate,
Welcome Back Mr. Lamar
We are all delighted to know that Mr. Lamar is out of the hospital and again back at his favorite spot on the football field sidelines. Mr. La- mar has been in the hospital for over a month with a broken arm. We're sure all the new boys will soon learn to appreciate his kind patronage as do the old boys now. So in speak-
ing for the entire school, the Meteor staff wants to say, "Welcome back Mr. Lamar!"
Mr. Harper Gets Married!
On August 16th, in a service per- formed in the Centenary Methodist church o f Lynchburg, Virginia Miss Delores Ann Murray, daughter of Mrs. Maurice L. Drummond of New- port News and the late Garland Alvis Murray, became the bride of Herbert Marion Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy J. Harper of Brookneal.
Mr. Harper, ou r "smiling bursar," and his lovely young wife, moved into the apartment vacated by Mr. Mag- nuson shortly before the beginning of the 37th session of V. E. S.
Already, the whole school is aware of this friendly new personality and, for the student body, The Meteor takes pleasure in extending to Mr. and Mrs. Harper its warmest congratula- tions and wishes for years of happi- ness.

Don is seen casting a watchful eye on room 13 but his suspicious nature ras been misled. BoyW is without his cohort in crime, "Lockjaw" Wilson.
Suddenly the "Ole Astrologer" sees a streak of red and gray headed for the nearest planet, but at a closer glance he sees it's only "Rocket" Lee in his supersonic, ultra modern chair. "Rocket" is chasing the ungainly and proverbial stork, trying to pass off North Carolina cigars.
"Shiv" Hunt is seen in study hall with his favorite blade, gleefully split- ting mosquito hairs as Kester starts
